Michael Bell is the president of Albion Research Ltd., and is a consultant specializing in the analysis of risk in business continuity planning. Mike has been working in this area since 2003 and also runs the business continuity website RiskyThinking.com. He also gives seminars on business continuity related topics.
He believes that a business continuity plan must be based on an analysis of the risks an organization faces and the impact of disruptions on the organization's goals. Otherwise there is no sound basis for planning or for determining how much should be spent on business continuity planning and risk mitigation.
Michael's primary research interests are in the fields of risk and threat identification and management, security, and automated reasoning.
He has provided advice and undertaken projects for a variety of government agencies and private clients on both sides of the Atlantic, ranging from writing plans through to the development and assessment of automated reasoning systems, and the design and development of software for prioritizing risk.
Michael was educated at Christ's Hospital and at Peterhouse, Cambridge University, England, where he received his Master of Arts degree in Computer Science and Engineering. He is an active member of the local chapter of the British Computer Society, a Chartered Engineer, a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a member of the Disaster Recovery Information Exchange (DRIE), a member of the Disaster Recovery Institute, and an Associate Business Continuity Professional (ABCP).
